Update on CVEC Electric Service in Appomattox County

Lovingston, VA, September 16, 2008 — Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC), repair crews worked throughout the night to restore power to electric cooperative members affected by the gas line explosion in Appomattox County.

After receiving authorization from federal investigators yesterday evening, CVEC linemen from Nelson and Appomattox replaced nearly a mile of poles, wire and transformers destroyed in the gas line explosion.   Crews finished their work by 4:30 AM, restoring power to the remaining 50 homes affected by the two-day power outage.

On Sunday, September 14, CVEC reported that a gas line explosion beneath a primary electric line in Appomattox County, Virginia resulted in a significant power outage for almost 500 CVEC members who receive their power from the Appomattox Substation.

Federal officials quarantined the area during their investigation into the cause of the explosion.  CVEC restored power to more than 300 Cooperative members shortly after the explosion and then rerouted power from an adjoining substation to another 125 affected electric customers.

CVEC President and CEO, Gary Wood thanked the CVEC members for their patience and understanding during the power outage and he thanked the repair crews for their dedicated work during the night to restore electric service for those families in Appomattox hoping to return to their homes as soon as possible.
